Tammy Schrecengost's book signing party, for
"Big Spring and Howard County"
Like you have never seen it before: An
Original Photographic History of Big Spring, Texas. Throughout her time here at the Heritage Museum, Tammy Schrecengost has
come across many images of historic Big Spring that most people have never
seen before. Wanting to get these photographs out to the public,
Tammy decided that a photographic history book would be the perfect way to
do this. Seen one before? Well, you may want to pick this one
up, because what makes this book so special is, although the photographs
in the book are aged, most of them will be new to you. This project
will give the community the opportunity to see Big Spring like you've
never seen it before.

Extensive Work Being Done in the
Collections Area
|
|
The collections of the Heritage Museum, as
extensive as they are, are a big responsibility to maintain. Work is
underway that will carry the museum and its collection management
strategies into the Computer Age. In the past, all objects were
documented on index cards, which requires a lot of time, upkeep, and
storage space. The museum just recently purchased PastPerfect,
collection management software designed specifically for museums.
With the help of the Collections Inventory Team, comprised of Tramaine
Anderson, Ethan Schrecengost, and Minda Williams, a huge amount of
progress has been accomplished. All textile items have been
inventoried and their information is now being put into the
computer. Metal storage is next on the agenda. |

Exhibit Renovations
|
|
The museum staff is very pleased to announce
some of the new and exciting plans that will be coming to life in the next
year. With the approval from the board, the staff will now be able
to offer various traveling and temporary exhibits that are larger in
size. A temporary exhibit gallery will be located on the first floor
of the museum, where the railroad exhibit is presently located. Our
new temporary exhibit cycle will begin in October, with a photographic
exhibit of the work of David R. Stoecklein, a renowned photographer of
Western life. If you would like to know more about this exhibit,
please contact nancy Rainey at the museum. Our permanent exhibits
will be located upstairs, and will include a better overview of the
history of Big Spring and Howard County. The railroad, oil industry,
and early pioneer life are only a few of the topics that we are anxious to
improve upon. This will take time, but the museum staff believes
that the end result will be worth the wait. The completed project
will aid us in our goal, which is to draw more visitors from the community
into the museum. |
